For years, the Bethany Center, a network of ministries spread throughout rural Guatemala, has served as a refuge of compassion for children suffering from malnutrition in these communities. Milagros’ Story

One such child is Milagros, whose name beautifully means “miracle.” Milagros arrived at the Bethany Center during a devastating moment in her young life. She was severely malnourished, frail, and quiet. Like many children suffering from prolonged hunger, she had little strength and rarely spoke.

But through the feeding program, something remarkable began to happen.

With regular nutritious meals and attentive care, Milagros slowly regained her health. Day by day, her strength returned. Before long, she was laughing again, playing with other children, and joining joyfully in prayer. The child who once struggled simply to survive began to imagine something more for her future.

The Dream of Becoming a Nurse

Touched by the love and care she received at the Bethany Center, Milagros began to dream of helping others the way she had been helped. She dreamed of becoming a nurse.

Through the continued generosity of compassionate supporters, that dream did not fade. Milagros received the support she needed to stay in school and pursue higher education. And over time, her perseverance bore fruit.

Today, Milagros works as a nurse at a regional hospital in Cobán, Guatemala—caring for patients in the very community where she once struggled for survival.

Milagros’ story does not end with her success. In a beautiful circle of grace, she now gives back to the very place that once saved her life. Milagros donates part of her own salary to support the feeding program and the healthcare services at the Bethany Center so other children can receive the same care she once did.
