Most of us don’t think twice about spending $10 a month on subscription services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, or Spotify Premium. $120 just isn’t a ton of money — most of us don’t even notice it coming out of our bank account, especially when we spend it over the course of a year.

You know what else cost just $120 annually? A child's education in Haiti

Wait. What?!

Yep. That’s right! You can literally make a world of difference through your sponsorship. This Thanksgiving season Missionhurst is trying to give the gift of education to 28 students in 28 days. Will you join us in this effort?

The idea that a child in Haiti could go through an entire year of Catholic education for the price of an Amazon Prime membership boggles the mind. In the United States, Catholic education is expensive; even a Catholic elementary school tuition can be thousands of dollars.

NOTE: You can learn more about our special campaign to sponsor 100 students this year by clicking here.

It wasn’t always that way of course, and there are still Catholic schools that are able to educate students from low-income backgrounds thanks to generous donors. If parents in the U.S. can’t afford to send their kids to Catholic schools, the public school system is well established and provides a publicly-funded education and good teachers.

By contrast, at our mission in Haiti, we educate children (who sometimes walk several hours each way to and from school) for $120 per student, per year. In Haiti, the public schools are not able to pay their teachers well, so most children receive a poor education. Catholic education is the only good education option for most Haitians. When a family cannot pay for the tuition, they are left without options and their child is left without an opportunity to learn.

The good news is you can help make an enormous difference in a child’s life for only $120 a year. By sponsoring a student at St. Jean Bosco school, they will be able to receive the education they need.

If a $120 sponsorship isn’t in your budget this year, prayerfully consider giving up just one of your subscription services - and putting that amount toward a child’s education. A one time gift, a monthly gift, or a gift of any amount is welcome.

While these services provide us with hours of entertainment, free shipping, increased physical fitness, and the freedom to create our own playlists, they can’t change a person’s life like a year of learning to read, write, add, and subtract can.

This Thanksgiving season, give a gift that truly matters. Join us this #GivingTuesday, and help us reach our goal of funding the education of 28 students.
