How You Can Change a Life for Less than Your Netflix Subscription

by MercyWorks on August 29, 2019

Most of us don’t think twice about spending $10 to $15 a month on subscription services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, or Spotify Premium. $120 just isn’t a ton of money — most of us don’t even notice it coming out of our bank account, especially when we spend it over the course of a year.

But, do you know what else cost $120 annually? A child's education in Haiti

Send a child in Bois de Laurence, Haiti back to school this Fall. Sponsor a student today!

Understanding Access to Education in Haiti

You can literally make a world of difference through your sponsorship. During this back-to-school season, MercyWorks has a goal to secure sponsorship for 20 students. Will you join us in this effort?

The idea that a child in Haiti could receive an entire year of Catholic education for less than the price of a Netflix subscription boggles the mind. In the United States, Catholic education is expensive; even a Catholic elementary school tuition can be thousands of dollars. If parents in the U.S. can’t afford to send their kids to Catholic schools, the public school system is well established and provides a publicly-funded education and good teachers.

By contrast, at our mission in Haiti, we educate children (who sometimes walk several hours each way to and from school) for $120 per student, per year. In Haiti, the public schools are not able to pay their teachers well, so most children who attend them receive a poor education. Catholic education is the only good education option for most Haitians. When a family cannot pay for the tuition, they are left without options and their child is left without an opportunity to learn.

Sponsor A Student this Fall

The good news is you can make an enormous difference in a child’s life for only $120 a year. By sponsoring a student at St. Jean Bosco school, they will be able to receive the education they need.

If a one time gift of $120 isn’t in your budget this year, we invite you to prayerfully consider giving up just one of your subscription services and putting that amount toward a child’s education. A one time gift, a monthly gift, or a gift of any amount is always welcome and makes a significant impact.

While these services provide us with hours of entertainment, free shipping, increased physical fitness, and the freedom to create our own playlists, they can’t change a person’s life like a year of learning to read, write, add, and subtract can.

This Fall, join us in prayer and giving and help us reach our goal of funding the education of 20 students. Thank you and God bless you!

Will you help us sponsor 20 students this back-to-school season? Your gift makes a difference!
