This is a time of preparation for the birth of Christ and of thanksgiving for life's blessings.
It can also be a very busy, distracted time where it feels hard to catch a breath and reflect on the year that is winding to a close.
Today, we invite you to pause and take a moment to consider what this season is truly about: the gift of the Christ Child to all mankind.
Why is this time of year known as the season of giving? Why do human beings give gifts to each other?
We give gifts to each other in imitation of God, the ultimate gift-giver. God gives to each of us the gift of life, the gift of faith, the gift of our talents and treasures, and every year, the gift of His son, Jesus Christ as a baby born in Bethlehem. What an extraordinary thing!
This is why we invite you now to enter into this season with a generous and open spirit, ready to receive good gifts from God and others and to give generously in return from what you possess.
Every year, on November 27th, Missionhurst participates in an international day of giving called Giving Tuesday. Placed right after the bustle of Thanksgiving and Black Friday, this day offers each of us a chance to pause and offer from what we have to those who are less fortunate.
We are so grateful to our devoted friends and supporters who have made our past Giving Tuesdays a big success. This year, we're asking you to help us meet and beat our previous goals by supporting our missions in Zambia, the Congo, Guatemala, and the Philippines.
Our priests and brothers are hard at work, serving the people of God in the poorest countries around the world, and they need our support!
